Japanese Cuisine On A Budget At HANAKO - Regis Center, Katipunan

Hanako is a female Japanese given name. The name can have different meanings, one of them being 花子, meaning "flower girl."

When we arrived at the location, I can't stop but noticed how cute their logo is. The place itself was pretty chill, it was spacious, well-lit and I like how it was designed - modern and clean. Together with my co-foodie bloggers, we visited them a week before Halloween so the place was on a Halloween theme.

Hanako had been operating since 2012 and they just started as a small commercial nook at Paranaque and eventually expanded to other areas. This branch at Regis Center, Katipunan just opened 2 months ago and I think they really chose a great spot because a lot of people are coming in to dine during our visit. Plus.. The quality you get for the price you pay for their food is also something.

Excited to know what we've indulged to?

California Gunkan (PHP219)
Consists of Kani, Fried Salmon Skin, Tamago, Mango, Cucumber and Ebiko
Spicy Tuna Crunch (PHP229)
This is one of my faves! Tuna, Togarashi and Tempura Flakes on top.
Philadelphia Roll (PHP209)
Salmon Kani, Cream Cheese, Tamago and Cucumber
Fish Katsu (PHP189)
Fish Meat breaded with panko then deep fried
Gyoza (2pcs PHP89 / 4pcs PHP159)
Japanese food wouldn't be complete without Gyoza! Not a big fan of Gyoza, but this one tastes good.
Five Star Roll (PHP219)
I guarantee you can finish this in one sitting too! Salmon, Kani, Fried Salmon Skin, Mango, Teriyaki Sauce, Sesame and Cucumber
Ebi Tempura (3pcs PHP 189 / 5pcs PHP279)
Succulent shrimps coated in a thin batter and friend until lightly crisp.
Kani Salad (PHP174)
Everyone's favorite Japanese salad prepared with crab meat.
Salmon Tartare (PHP224)
This small chunks of salmon mixed with Japanese mayonnaise, tagarashi, tempura flakes and chopped scallion is another MUST TRY!
Gyudon (PHP219)
Gyudon had been one of my fave Japanese dish next to Katsudon. I like its mildly sweet sauce flavored with dashi, soy sauce and mirin.
Chicken Yakitori (PHP149)
Grilled chicken skewers perfectly seasoned with salt, pepper and teriyaki sauce served with steamed rice.
Katsudon (PHP199)
Another popular Japanese food, a bowl of rice topped with a deep-fried pork cutlet, egg, vegetables, and condiments.
Katsu Curry (PHP229)
Raise your hands to those who loves curry like me!!! Hanako also serves this breaded deep-fried pork cutlet with Japanese curry sauce.
Beef Omurice (PHP184)
Classic Japanese omeletter stuffed with savory beef fried rice, drizzled with Japanese mayonnaise and homemade sweet-unami sauce.
Grilled Salmon Head (PHP149)
Salmon head, lightly seasoned and served with a homemade sweet, citrus-soy dipping sauce.
Meiji Madness (PHP129)
Save the best for last: DESSERT! Here's a chocolate muffin and vanilla ice cream combination, with chocolate syrup drizzled on top of the ice cream, and chocolate shavings on the side.

My top picks would be their Five Star Roll, Beef Omurice, Katsu Curry, Salmon Tartare and their Meiji Madness! Overall, I liked Hanako! From the ambiance, the staff and the food, it's a BIG YES for me. If you find heading to Katipunan too daunting. Hanako has other branches that you may visit -Holy Spirit, Quezon City, Paranaque City and SM Center Pasig.
